Estes Park Hiking

The Estes Park area is a hiker’s paradise. Rocky Mountain National Park offers more than 350 miles of hiking trails through evergreen forests, across wildflower-filled meadows, along crystal clear rivers, beside alpine lakes, beneath rushing waterfalls, and up-high mountain peaks with breathtaking views.

Trails vary in length, elevation gain, and difficulty level. From easy, family-friendly, and accessible trails like Bear and Sprague Lakes to the very difficult trek up 14,259-foot Longs Peak, the tallest peak in the park, there are trails for every fitness and experience level. The Park’s website, newspaper, and rangers at the visitor centers can help you with trail choices. There are trail guides, maps, and books available for purchase in the Rocky Mountain Nature Association bookstores at Rocky Mountain National Park visitor centers.

Add in the many miles of hiking trails in the adjacent Roosevelt National Forest plus the Indian Peaks and Comanche Peak Wilderness Areas and the options for Estes Park hiking are limitless.

Hike some of the trails during every season. Others are perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.
